Road cycling in the Auvergne region
Cycling in a middle mountain area
The Auvergne region guarantees a varied road cycling holiday. Straight out of our accommodation in Le Mont-Dore the climbs to the Col de la Croix Morand, the Col de Guéry, the Col de Croix Saint Robert and the climb to La Stèle begin. And if that is not enough, at 5 km distance the climbs to the Col de Vendeix, the Col de la Sœur and the Banne d'Ordanche begin.
This all in very diverse landscapes. From rough plateaus, volcano landscapes to forests with fast-flowing streams. Short and longer rides, with a variety of terrains from a lot of climbs to less climbs, everything is possible.
In September 2011 a group of cyclists from the ING Arnhem Cycling Club stayed at Les Camélias. PJ Films did create the movie below of this cycling holiday.
BIG climbs
Near to Les Camelias some climbs that are part of the 1000 so-called BIG climbs can be found: the Col de la Croix Saint-Robert, the Col de la Croix-Morand, the Col de Guéry, the Puy de Dôme and Col du Chevalard.
Cycling routes
Obviously we have prepared routes for our cycling guests. We have created an unique system whereby all routes have each 7 distance variants. The routes start at around 50 km and go up with about 15 km to about 140 km. On average each 50 km of cycling will be 1000 meters of climbing.
GPS tracks
Our cycling routes are available as GPS track. If you do not have a GPS yourself, you can rent one at Les Camélias.
Cycling round trips
Apart from staying with us you can also choose a round trip. There are 2 versions: for groups up to 10 cyclists and for groups of 10 or more cyclists.
